Camera Compatibility
Overwhelming resolving power
In addition to two SLD glass elements, glass with high anomalous dispersion suppresses the axial chromatic aberration inherent to large-aperture lenses to the utmost limit. Aspherical elements thoroughly correct spherical aberration and sagittal coma flare. The lens delivers reliably high resolving power from maximum aperture, bringing out the rendering only F1.2 can offer and capturing every detail of the subject’s expression and texture in both photographs and video.
Beautiful bokeh that makes the subject stand out
Pairing a large F1.2 aperture with an 85mm medium-telephoto focal length produces an extremely shallow depth of field and rich, beautiful bokeh. A 13-blade diaphragm keeps out-of-focus highlights near-circular even when stopped down. Natural bokeh that suppresses colour bleeding and double-line bokeh makes the subject stand out, bringing remarkable three-dimensionality to portraits and video work.
Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
Flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, are addressed under all conditions of incident light using the most advanced simulation technology. High backlight resistance delivers clear, sharp images in any lighting.
The smallest and lightest in its class for an 85mm F1.2
By placing aspherical elements effectively within the focus groups, the number of elements in the focus unit has been significantly reduced. Despite a complex floating mechanism, a precise mechanical design pared back to the absolute minimum achieves the smallest size and lightest weight in its class for an 85mm F1.2*1, at 905g*2. It stays comfortable through long shoots and in situations that demand mobility. *1 As an AF 85mm F1.2 interchangeable lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras (as of September 2026, according to Sigma). *2 Figure for L-Mount.
Fast and quiet autofocusing with dual HLA system
Fast, quiet AF driven by the dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) delivers reliable tracking for both stills and video. Even with the shallow depth of field at F1.2, it captures the subject accurately, enabling smooth, precise shooting in any scene.
The high build quality of the Art line
Built from high-precision parts in lightweight, high-strength materials such as TSC*, the lens offers the rigidity and durability of the Art line without compromising portability, with the build quality to serve as a reliable photographic tool for years to come. *TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) is a polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to aluminium. Its high affinity with metal parts contributes to high-quality manufacturing.
Designed to minimise focus breathing
Optimising the focus group arrangement and aspherical shapes significantly suppresses focus breathing. The change in angle of view as focus shifts is minimised, creating natural-looking focus pulls when recording video.
Various shooting assist functions
The lens has AFL buttons in two locations, which can be assigned a range of functions via the menu on selected cameras. Alongside the aperture ring, it features an aperture ring lock switch* and a click switch to turn the click on and off. *If switched on in position A, the aperture ring locks in position A. If switched on in any other position, it locks within the range from open to minimum aperture and cannot be turned to position A.
Dust- and splash-resistant structure* and water- and oil-repellent coating
In addition to a dust- and splash-resistant structure, the front element has a water- and oil-repellent coating, so the lens can be used with confidence in harsh outdoor environments. *The product is dust- and splash-resistant but not waterproof. When using the lens near water, take care not to let large amounts of water splash on it. Water inside the lens may cause a major malfunction and render it unrepairable.

MTF CHART GUIDE
: The MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) is one of the measurements for evaluating a lens’ performance, and it shows how faithfully the contrast of the subject can be reproduced on the image plane. The horizontal axis shows the image height (distance from the centre of the image in mm) and the vertical axis shows the contrast value (maximum value is 1). The closer the 10 line pairs/mm curve is to 1, the higher the contrast and clarity of the lens, and similarly, the closer the 30 line pairs/mm curve is to 1, the better the resolution and sharpness of the lens. *The MTF chart depicts the result at the wide-open aperture. *For mirrorless lenses that support distortion correction, the horizontal axis shows the image height equivalent to when an L-Mount lens is attached to a Sigma L-Mount camera with distortion correction applied. (The effect of distortion correction may differ depending on the mount and camera used.) *The spatial frequency indicates the variation on the image plane before distortion correction is performed.
